How it works

From trial lesson to driving test

The route to a Dutch car licence (category B), in four steps. The CBR is the Dutch authority that runs the theory exam, the interim test and the practical exam.

    A trial lesson

    One hour behind the wheel. We get to know you, you drive yourself at your own pace, and afterwards you get an honest estimate of how many lessons you need. Free if you then choose a package, otherwise €65.

  2. 02

    Lessons in English

    Lessons of 60 minutes, picked up at home, at university or at work within our area. We teach Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00 and Saturday 09:00–16:00. Cancel or reschedule free of charge up to 24 hours before.

  3. 03

    Theory, at your own pace

    Every package includes i-Theorie, the online theory course. The CBR offers the car theory exam in English as well, and you need to pass it before your interim test and practical exam.

  4. 04

    Interim test and exam

    Every package includes the CBR interim test (tussentijdse toets) and your first practical exam. We book them for you once you have authorised us at the CBR.

Your practical driving test

Until Friday 23 October 2026 the CBR holds practical driving tests for the Leiden region at Smaragdlaan 99 A, Leiden. From Tuesday 27 October 2026, Van der Valk Sassenheim (Warmonderweg 8, Sassenheim) is the temporary start and end point, for about six months.

Yes. Lessons in English are part of what we offer, from your very first lesson to your exam preparation. Mention it when you book your trial lesson, or send us a WhatsApp message on 06 47 28 55 82 in English, and we'll plan everything in English from the start.

A 60-minute lesson costs €65 in a manual car and €70 in an automatic. Inside a package you pay €60 (manual) or €65 (automatic) per lesson. All packages and prices are on our packages page (in Dutch).

It is free if you choose a package afterwards. If you don't, the trial lesson including the intake costs €65. You drive yourself for an hour and get an honest estimate of how many lessons you need.

Yes. The CBR, the Dutch driving test authority, offers the standard car theory exam in English, and also the version with extra time. In 2026 the English theory exam costs €57 at the CBR. You book it yourself via Mijn CBR with DigiD; if you can't get a DigiD, the CBR has an application form you fill in, sign and send instead. The exam has 50 questions and you pass with at least 44 correct, within 30 minutes. It is not held in Leiden itself: the nearest CBR theory locations are Rijswijk and Haarlem. Until Friday 23 October 2026 the CBR holds practical driving tests for the Leiden region at Smaragdlaan 99 A, Leiden. From Tuesday 27 October 2026, Van der Valk Sassenheim (Warmonderweg 8, Sassenheim) is the temporary start and end point, for about six months. There are no fixed exam routes: according to the CBR, the test drive is built from local traffic situations. Those situations are what we practise.

Wherever suits you within our area: at home, at university or at work in Leiden, Leiderdorp, Oegstgeest, Voorschoten, Sassenheim, Wassenaar and Katwijk aan Zee. After the lesson we drop you off there again.

We teach Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00 and Saturday 09:00–16:00. A standard lesson takes 60 minutes. You can cancel or reschedule free of charge up to 24 hours before your lesson.

Yes, on packages X1, X2 and X3. It does not apply to single lessons. Ask about it when you book your trial lesson.
